Bulawayo East legislature Ilois Nyoni has channeled his entire Constituency Development Fund (CDF) towards the drilling of boreholes amid a growing water crisis in Zimbabwe’s second largest city.
This comes as the Bulawayo City Council recently decommissioned Umzingwane Dam due to low water levels. Council has since introduced a 72-hour water rationing regime to preserve the precious liquid.
Water woes continue to worsen in the city amid surging diarrhea cases, with more than 1 200 recorded so far. Nyoni said he used his entire $10 million CDF allocation to drill three boreholes in the constituency.
